I started making functional pottery around 2004, but I focused on sculpting with clay earlier on. I was immediately attracted to atomospheric firings and was lucky enough to fire with other artists or use art centers’ kilns until I built my own soda kiln in 2008.
Tea Party Inside a Teapot
High-fired Stoneware approximately 9”x7.5”x8”
I grew up in Japan and when I was older, lived for two years in England. In both counties, tea drinking is very much a part of one’s life. When happy, tired, sad or upset, tea provides us with warmth and comfort. A teapot holds something hot, warm or cold. It is, for me, a symbol of human relationship such as family, friends and lovers, thus, “Tea party Inside a Teapot.”
This particular teapot was shown and sold in the Juried Exhibition INFUSION10x10 at Craft Alliance, St. Louis, MO. between May 2 and June 30, 2008
